Can Google Make A Come Back From This Crashing Wave?

Google has officially abandoned “Wave,” its social collaboration tool. Its demise, which has tremendously damaged Google’s social networking plans, has Facebook is poised to take continue to take the lead in the next web wave. “Google wave” was intended to be a real-time communication platform that combined elements of email and instant messaging collaboration software. As the beta for the program rolled out, many users found it incredibly difficult to understand, which showed that mainstream adoptions was inevitably unattainable. Coincidentally, it suffered the same fate as the twitter-like service “Google Buzz.” This was do in part by the lack of social tools really needed to make a revolutionary social media “wave,” that could have been knocking at the heels of facebook and twitter.

So what does this all mean for the rumored “Google Me?” It is very possible that like “Wave” and “Buzz”, “Google Me” will be far too technically advanced for any mainstream users to adopt. I think Google needs to move on, because while their failures may not seem to hurt them to much, it is still incredibly damaging. With Facebook’s over 500 Million users, and a more personalized search engine algorithm due to the collection of personal data from user profiles, Google is on a continuing downward slope. Although, with recent news of Google’s plans of acquiring twitter, Facebook’s long-time nemesis, there is a very good possibility that their social networking plans may take a drastic turn.
